On Thursday 16th February, the final steering group of the Interreg Europe Digitourism project was held at the University of Applied Sciences in Breda (NL).

The project partners from eight European countries (France, Italy, Hungary, United Kingdom, Norway, Spain, Poland, Netherlands) presented the results of the pilot actions and the action plans that were implemented within the project.

Fondation Grand Paradis previewed the pilot action “Hard to reach” Gran Paradiso and the immersive solutions created to make Gran Paradiso accessible to everyone through augmented reality and virtual reality solutions. Thanks to the use of the latest generation of visors (Meta Guest Pro) it will be possible to live the experience of climbing the “Ferrata di Casimiro” in Rhêmes-Notre-Dame and the thrill of reaching 4.061 m on the summit of Gran Paradiso.

A preview of the contents of the two locations can be seen at this link.

“The international comparison offers valuable ideas for designing innovative experiences that enhance the extraordinary heritage of the Aosta Valley” commented Luisa Vuillermoz – director of Fondation Grand Paradis – who continues: “the Digitourism project has offered us an unmissable opportunity to intercept the best technological applications of augmented and virtual reality that can make the Gran Paradiso destination a true smart community”.

The solutions will be available for an initial test phase starting in February in the Gran Paradiso National Park Visitor Centres. The actions implemented by the project’s international partnership have tested and promoted the use of Extended Reality solutions applied to the tourism sector (virtual, augmented and mixed reality), enhancing the natural and cultural contexts of the various partner territories.
